After a Haydock-based aerosol filling company approached Glaston to invest in new compressed air equipment to meet ever-increasing production demands, we built a bespoke compressor system that not only addressed these requirements but greatly improved their carbon footprint.
Read on as Glaston reveals what made HPC KAESER’s SFC series variable speed compressor an ideal solution for this particular customer.
As a market-leading manufacturer of aerosol filling solutions for home products, the customer has impressive production capabilities that rely heavily on the smooth and efficient operation of machinery daily.
Following a surge in production demands they decided that considerable investment in brand-new, state-of-the-art production equipment was required.
When it came to replacing their old and inefficient air compressors the customer enlisted the help of Glaston to provide a new system that would help them achieve their increased production requirements.
Glaston recommended the customer invest in a brand-new variable speed compressor from leading manufacturers, HPC KAESER. We selected a CSDX140 model from HPC KAESER’s SFC VSD compressor series, complete with dryers and filters to maximise total efficiency.
HPC KAESER variable speed compressors push the boundaries of compressed air efficiency and deliver more compressed air for less power consumption. These high-performance VSD compressors combine ease of use and maintenance with exceptional versatility and environmentally responsible design. As such, these HPC KAESER compressors would not only offer the customer increased efficiency by taking the place of two older compressors, but greatly reduce their carbon footprint in the process.
Additionally, Glaston also factory-fitted a winter pack in the new compressor to help overcome cold-weather startups during the winter months. Most compressors are designed to operate in ambient temperatures of between 5 °C and 35 °C. Should temperatures fall below 5 °C, problems can arise in terms of condensate and oil within fluids in the compressor system.
The condensate can freeze during winter and potentially block pipes and voids in the compressor. Oils tend to become more viscous and prevent the compressor from easily turning, leading to electrical systems tripping when demand is higher than usual. Installing a winter pack into the customer’s new VSD compressor will allow comfortable operation even at temperatures as low as -10 °C.
The customer’s new variable speed drive compressor system will not only enable them to meet increased production demands but will also save money in a variety of ways.
For example, the air ends of the new VSD compressor are equipped with flow-optimised SIGMA PROFILE rotors, which can be both controlled and monitored via the industrial PC-based SIGMA CONTROL 2 compressor controller. This will enable free air delivery to be precisely matched to meet actual compressed air demand and ensure maximum energy efficiency.
The use of super-premium IE4 motors will also boost energy efficiency even further for the customer.
SFC series compressors from HPC KAESER are renowned for providing low-specific energy consumption that will provide our customer with the lowest possible operating costs. They are also known for operating effectively at full load 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Something that will greatly benefit the customer’s production requirements.
Although not the cheapest in today’s market, when benchmarked against competitors, the new HPC KAESER compressor will repay the customer’s initial investment with year-on-year running cost savings over its lifespan.
As a result, the customer was thoroughly impressed with the first-class service provided by Glaston’s engineers. They greatly complimented our compressor installation processes, remarking that this was a well-planned and executed installation with no interruption to their production cycle. Moving forward, the customer can now enjoy efficient and extended service from their HPC KAESER compressor system.
