Loyal Glaston customer invests in the future of compressed air technology

A leading manufacturer of ceramic fibre insulation products has opted to invest in the latest compressed air technology. After experiencing mechanical failures with existing air compressors on site, they consulted Glaston to find out the options they had available to address this problem.

What the customer needed

One of Glaston’s oldest customers with whom we have been working with since the 1970s had experienced a mechanical failure with an old 90kw HPC compressor. The machine in question was over 25-years-old and despite its age could have easily been repaired by Glaston. Although Glaston had the parts available to refurbish and commission this machine, the customer had opted for an alternate approach.

Instead of spending money repairing older equipment, they wanted to look into the prospect of replacing it and investing in newer compressed air technology. Ultimately, the customer’s decision-making process was a simple one: “do we spend money on repairing older equipment that isn’t as efficient?” or “do we invest our money in something new with better efficiencies?” In the end, they chose something new.

What Glaston did

Following the customer’s instruction, Glaston got to work putting together a bespoke compressed air system package that would incorporate the latest technology. In the meantime the customer spent 12 months with one of Glaston’s hired air compressors on-site due to budget constraints until they could afford the new equipment.

The resulting package that Glaston put together was a new modern DSD 205 variable speed machine, complete with a full warranty and a SAM controller. For additional functionality, the controller was connected to older existing compressors used on site.

What happened as a result

The customer now has the latest compressed air technology implemented on their site providing them with peace of mind and benefiting from enhanced compressed systems. Because of the successful installations and efficiencies which the new equipment provide the customer is now looking to invest further. The long term aim is to upgrade all existing equipment and systems, ensuring the latest compressed air technology is implemented throughout the site.
