Glaston received an enquiry from a bespoke racing car manufacturer in the North West, who had recently expanded their factory. The company’s new facility needed a duel compressed air system to support their manufacturing requirements.
Following a number of previous successful projects with this client, Glaston Compressor Services were engaged by this manufacturing company back in 2017. This was the initial design stage for the factory, when it was determined that the general purpose air would need to provide 8 bar of air to the factory and machinery 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, this solution would only need 12.5 bar of air for a few hours each day for very specific processes. With this in mind, the compressed air system designed by Glaston Compressor Services needed to be manufactured to meet both of these requirements.
Here at Glaston Compressor Services, we used cost modelling to determine the most appropriate solution. We determined that by installing a two pressure system, the bespoke racing car manufacturer would be able to save a large amount in electrical costs in comparison to running the whole system at 12.5 bar. Without a duel compressed air system, the whole system would have to run at 12.5 bar to suit the highest pressure requirement before reducing the bulk of the air pressure down to meet the requirement of the 8 bar compressed air system.
Our team of expert compressed air engineers designed an appropriate system that required two 45kW 8.5 bar compressors. These air compressors featured full variable speed drive control and integral dryers, alongside filtration with two fixed speed 5.5kW 15 bar air compressors. These air compressors featured integral dryers and filtration systems.
This solution provided the customer with a full duty solution, plus a standby solution that is on hand for any potential problems, eliminating the need for costly downtime.
This system could deliver the required bar of pressure to both systems with ease without the need to waste energy by reducing the pressure to the system.
The compressed air solution was installed in Q4 of 2020, during the Covid-19 lockdown in the UK. As a result of this, Glaston worked in a COVID-safe way, thanks to our regular onsite lateral flow test facilities.
All of the equipment supplied by Glaston Compressor Services was provided with a comprehensive long-term maintenance plan, with a full parts and labour warranty on all of the equipment. This client just pays a simple low-cost monthly payment which eliminates costly surprises during the length of the agreement.
